Playful People Productions is proud to announce that we will be producing the full-length version of the Broadway smash hit musical, Fiddler On The Roof! We are casting Fiddler age-appropriately. There are excellent parts for playful people from ages 12 to adult including a large ensemble of singers and dancers.

New York-based theatre artists Gary De Mattei (Director/Choreographer) and Caryn Hartglass (Musical Director) will be recreating the original Jerome Robbins choreography that comes with the show. As with all of our shows here at Playful People Productions, our production of Fiddler On The Roof is a workshop production. This means no experience is necessary, just a desire to play and learn the art of musical theatre story telling. However, if you already do have experience doing theatre, and would like to take your skills to the next level, don't miss this great opportunity to play with Caryn Hartglass and Gary De Mattei.

And here's a BONUS: for the very first time, Playful People Productions will be incorporating a small ensemble of musicians to play live onstage during each performance. NO TRACK! So, if you play a musical instrument and want to work with this exciting new production of a musical theatre classic, dust off your instrument and start practicing. Or if you are already a musician who loves to play, we want you to play with us! CLICK HERE FOR MUSICIAN AUDITION INFORMATION

SYNOPSIS

Based on Sholom Aleichem's Tevye And His Daughters, Fiddler on the Roof is the beloved story of the small, tradition-steeped town of Anatevka, Russia, during 1905, where Jews and Russians live in delicate balance. During the course of the show, the time-honored traditions of Anatevka are both embraced and challenged by Tevye and his colorful community, as they witness three of his five daughters, Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava, grow up and fall in love in a time of extraordinary change. Fiddler on the Roof's Broadway premier became the longest-running Broadway musical in history, a title it maintained for almost ten years. It is a story that captures the essential human longings for love, community, success, freedom, family, and meaning. Fiddler features such iconic songs as the beautiful "Sunrise, Sunset," the boisterous "If I Were a Rich Man," and the classic "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" as well as many others.

How to Audition Workshop: Wednesday, November 16 or Thursday, November 17, 4-9pm. (FREE)
This workshop is included with registration for your benefit, it is not mandatory.
If you are unsure of how to audition, come to the workshop and learn all you need to know to make your audition a success! This five-hour intensive workshop on acting, singing and dancing comes as a courtesy with the registration for our Fiddler on the Roof Production. We will cover how to prepare for auditions. We will teach parts from the Fiddler on the Roof song, "Tradition" that you will be given to sing at your audition or we will help you with the 16 bars of the Broadway show tune you've selected for your audition. Songs from Fiddler are encouraged. Also, come to the workshop wearing comfortable clothes. You will learn the movement/dance combination you will be doing at the audition.

BONUS! In addition to all of this audition training you will be given a specific time for your audition on Saturday 11/19 or Sunday 11/20. If you don't attend the audition workshop you will not have a scheduled time and you will have to wait in line at the auditions for when time is available.

IF YOU STILL WANT ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE
Individual Vocal Coaching: Friday, November 18, 3-10pm and Saturday, November 19, 9-11am. (ADDITIONAL FEE)
If you are interested in taking private voice lesson with Musical Director Caryn Hartglass to prepare for your Fiddler audition, please email info@artiststheatre.com to schedule your appointment.

Auditions: Saturday, November 19 and Sunday, November 20, noon to 4pm.
Prepare 16 bars of a Broadway Show Tune. Bring your sheet music. A pianist will be provided. Songs from Fiddler are encouraged. (Please, no pop songs.) Also, come prepared to learn a movement combination.

In the past we've taken you in groups, however, at the Fiddler auditions we will start by seeing you one at a time. If you have attended the workshop you will have a specific audition time. Those who do not have a scheduled time will be instructed to put their names on a sign-up sheet at the audition. Whenever there is an opening between scheduled audition times we will call names in order from the sign-up sheet. If you are not present when your name is called, you will need to sign up again.

You will sing your 16 bars when you are called. Remember, your 16 bars can simply be the appropriate section of the song "Tradition" which you learned if you attended the audition workshop. When we have heard 12 people we will bring your group of 12 back in and do the movement combination. If you attend the workshop you will have already learned this dance. When we finish with the first group of 12 we will repeat this process until everyone has been seen.

Callbacks: Sunday, November 20, 6 to 10pm.
Some of you may be invited to come to a callback where you will be asked to sing and read additional material from the show. We will be sensitive to your age since it is a school night. Adults will be scheduled later than young adults and teens. Your callback will not last the entire four hours.
